In poker we can find out a lot of poker strategies that are from very effective to completly stupid and from complex to simple. This time we'll talk about the FREE CARD strategy, which is very simple and very effective, perfecto for the newcomers aka newbies.
Poker Strategy: Free Card
This poker strategy consist on betting or raising on the flop with the intention of checking on the turn in order to see the river card for free (and u also seeing the turn card for free).
We can use this free card strategy in all situations that we are interested to view the turn and/or river card for "free". Isn't actually free, it's just the cheaper it can be. I'll explain it bellow with two examples.
Example
You are dealt two suited connectors and your opponent checks the flop, you want to see more cards becouse the flop completly missed you, but there's no flush draw, nor straight draw! You might need to see the turn and river if u want to win this hand by the showdown.
So you bet with nothing and with position. Then he will think u have something and check to you on the turn, that's when u shutdown and check him to the river, and that would be it. You bet on the flop and made your opponent check instead of raising/betting and now u have the turn and river cards peek for free, if the cards help, you'll prolly have the nuts and a tricky image against your opponent.
Explanation
"Your opponents checks at the flop and let's u play, u opt to make a Free Card strategy coz u missed the flop and have suited connectors, so you raise like u had top pair, prolly 3/4 of the pot size, or even more. What's normal then is that no matter what card appears on the turn your opponent will check to you, becouse he thinks u have a hand and he think that you will make a continuation bet, the trick is that instead of betting you will just check, giving you a turn and river card peek for free"
Step by Step
1. You are in a later position compared with your opponent
2. Your opponent checks the flop or makes a low size bet and it's a solid player
3. You bet the flop 3/4 pot size, or reraise his bet x3 (he bets 20, u reraise 60, or just raise 3/4 pot or full pot size), if this dude reraises you now you must FOLD coz he have the nuts
4. He checks the turn and you check the turn (here's the free card tech)
5. You peek the river for free and decide what to do you, your opponent is thinking that you are a tricky player rite now. (but he could be tricky as well!)
This poker strategy can be used on any format of Texas hold'em poker, or even on other variants like Omaha hold'em. It's supposed this strategy will be super effective in LIMIT POKER HOLDEM (doesn't matter if it's texas or omaha)
Note: You don't need to confuse this strategy with "giving away a free card", which is actually what you can do if have the NUT or a moster hand and check it so your opponent thinks you have a less powerful hand.
